trip in Indonesia (2003)

  - July 14 -                    

Gone from Brest, I joined Erwan Genre, himself gone from Lorient to Paris... To our big astonishment, in the waiting line for Hong Kong we see Anthony Zozaya, Antoine Vignes and Derek Crater, the 3 guy of the Landes of the trip: "you did not have to leave yesterday?" ; "yes but they paid us to take this flight (overbooking !?)" Ah , well, some of us have luck!

hop let's fly to Hong-kong, after 13hours of flight, 2 hours waiting and more 5 hours of flight for our final destination: Denpasar, Bali..
  - July 15 -                    

here, this is the Australian azure coast, in a few seconds we passes the paradise in spangle for Australian surfer, to the reality of indonesia... it is especially the kindness of the Balinese that lets us dreamers!
We arrive therefore at Thomas, just between Uluwatu and Padang-Padang, where Maël L'helgouach and Jacques Kerveillant wait for us, a few on the nerves after their trip in Australia (videos on glissebretonne!)... first observation: that rather seems flat... we have the confirmation by Thomas who lets us hear that it makes a long time that he didn't see good waves... Gloups!
  - July 16 -                      
We go to Uluwatu, then to Padang-Padang, it is small, nobody in the water and rocks a close!. (I have water to the calf when I take pictures in front of the wave!) Antoine scrapes himself the back on the reef... it is not the ecstasy!!

Back at Thomas, Erwan see that someone steal him 600€, for me it's my cellphone and to give us some courage, we learn that the boat trip is going to cost us the double of the price... this is the feast!
- July 17 -  
the swell arrived during the night... "shit! " I'm telling to myself while putting my palms on the reef of Padang: it's 7 in the morning, Erwan is alone at the peak for 15 minutes and the sets that arrive to roll up themselves on the reef give me some thrills!
the afternoon, the spot turns into fields of fair, the Australian have finally no more alcohol and they throw themselves on whatever, what a waste! Derek, Antoine, Anthony and Erwan finish their session in a perfect Bingin -1m20 - and 1 hour to walk back by night...
- July 18 & 19 -            

no more swell, so we visit the temple of Uluwatu. The 19 in the evening, Xavier Horlaville and Eric Gamez join us.
 
- July 20 -
                  
We finally leave by boat-trip, after an interminable galley to withdraw money on Kuta... direction the island of Nusa Lembogan where a small session to shipwreck waits for us... always as much people in water!
 
- July 21 -
                    
4h30 in the morning, we leave for Lombok... because of the wind, it is already 9h30 when we arrive to Desert Point... but the spot is seriously working! but hawaiian surfers takes all the waves, the session is wasted again... on the afternoon the wind is too strong, the boat is obliged to take shelter in a small creek to spend the night there.
       
 
- July 22 -

a long day of navigation waits for us. 4 hours to reach the Gilies island, remains there blocked some hours, too much wind to go farther... once the wind calmed , we leave for 5 hours of navigation while bordering Lombok, it let us the time to contemplate its volcano from every angle... it's again necessary to shelter us in a small bay for the night.
 
- July 23 -
                    

5h30, in spite of wind we "obliges" the captain' to take us to our final destination: Sumbawa!After an atrocious crossing (wind and swell in the face) we finally arrives to Scar Reef... and... not wave, on-shore wind!

Even Eric go to water, wind turns in some minutes and it get's bigger: in 1/2 hours the spot unleashes itself! to celebrate the day we offers to us a small "cap's" with Bintang beer...
- July 24 -
another boat-trip arrived on the spot, small session glassy non-stop from morning to evening..  
  - July 25 -                  

The waves are even smaller than yesterday, diving and bathing for everybody, except for Erwan who finds a way to scratch his hand on the only wave of the day... after an obliged decontamination with lemon by the crew, he faint for a few second... no surf for him for the moment! the other boat left.
- July 26 -
no more waves, on-shore wind, and to crown everything, the captain informs us that there is no more stuff to eat on the boat, he wants to go back to Bali... no way! we will have to eat rice and the fruit of fishing for the last 6 days... everybody is a little disgusted , we decides to move to Supersuck. outside of the bay, there is swell, but with a bad orientation... no wave! on the other hand Supersuck have got some bars!!
- July 27 -
still no wave at Supersuck, we left at 6 o'clock in the morning to Yo-yo's, the spot is a whole bay, the boat cannot go there, so we have, after a "landing" in a small creek, to reach the spot through the bush, this is the punitive expedition... once on the spot: its saturate!? everybody eat for not so much... the afternoon we return to supersuck and here... suprise! 2 very round sessions wait for us, only happiness! Anthony released himself, Erwan made a pretty good barrel invert out....
     
- July 28 -

on the rising sun, we redoes the same at Supersuck, Antony hurt well his hip in a box, good tricks all the day: Maël managed 5 tubes on the same wave... and for me and Xavier, we get scared some times with surprised series and the motor of the annex that wedged 1 times on 2... Happy Birthday Jacques!!
- July 29 -
No waves. we cruise toward Scar Reef, similar... we decides to return to the Gilies islands hoping to have some swell at Desert Point... Erwan, Derek, Antoine, Anthony and me pass the evening on one of the 3 islands of Gilies: Pussy Island; a small island covered entirely by hotels, cinemas and nightclub... be carefull at cold sweats!!
               
  - July 30 -                  
Finally we directly went to Nusa lembogan, we have an on-shore session in Shipwreck... that smells the end...
- July 31 -
Again a small session in Shipwreck, the afternoon, filming of operation-reduction! (to see surely in one future DVD...)
- August 01 -

Antoine, Antony and Dereks leave... we are going to do the same tomorrow... it's finished... beuuuuueuuueuuu!!! he only remains to celebrate my birthday in the plane!
